Where can I sell gold in Basel?
Six things apply whenever you sell gold, wherever you sell. Here they are, followed by the way to us near Basel SBB station.
What to look out for when selling gold
Six points that help you with any buyer.
- Read the hallmarkThe number gives the fineness in thousandths: 750 is 18 carat, 585 is 14 carat. If there is no hallmark, the piece is tested, not guessed.
- See the scaleWeighing takes place before your eyes, on a calibrated scale, each type separately.
- Know the daily priceThe gold price changes constantly. If you know the market price, you can put an offer into context. The buying price is lower because the gold has to be refined out of the alloy.
- Bring your IDIdentity card, passport or foreign national's ID. The Anti-Money Laundering Act requires identification when buying precious metal.
- No obligation to sellA valuation commits you to nothing. If you don't like the price, take everything back with you.
- Ask for a statementWeight, fineness and price per gram belong in writing on one sheet, item by item.
A piece of jewellery can be worth more than its metal, for example a well-preserved ring or a mechanical watch. Ask about it before anything is melted down: Sell jewellery on consignment.
